I never thought I’d become invested in writing reverse harem. Writing stories about multiple partners is a very different skill to writing a regular romance between two people. You have to develop a relationship between all of them and do it in a way that’s authentic and genuine.
I didn’t make a conscious choice to create stories where there was one heroine and several male love interests. I sort of fell into it when I started writing The Devil’s Syndicate. It never started out as a reverse harem. I was actually going to write different love interests for the boys, but it soon became clear to me they were having none of that. No, they all wanted Ash and there was nothing I could do but follow along with them. I guess that’s what got me started on this non-traditional romance thing I’ve been exploring.
So what made me want to write another reverse harem series?
I enjoy exploring that dynamic more than I thought I ever would. It’s nice to think outside of the box and not be constrained to a certain set of rules about romance in a lot of ways. Like yes, I will always provide an HEA no matter what, but what goes on in between that? It’s up to me really. And reverse harem allows me to have fun with building relationships between multiple characters. Not to mention all the incredibly racy sex scenes I get to write along with it.
So yeah, I’m writing another contemporary, dark reverse harem. This is nothing like The Devil’s Syndicate. In fact, I’d probably go as far as to say this might well end up being the darkest story I’ve ever written. It certainly feels that way when I’m inside their heads. And I think that has something to do with the fact I’m writing characters who are based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Pestilence. War. Famine. Death.
These men aren’t the nice guys. They’re dark, ruthless and completely unashamed of it. But don’t worry, their heroine is perfectly capable of going toe to toe with them.
As this is contemporary, there is no supernatural element to the story, so anyone going into this should not expect that.
I guess this is my official announcement about it. The Four Horsemen are coming… so stay tuned!
